Dragon Nest Introduction to Bowmaster

Ultimate Archer Walkthrough V1.2

Hetaga
Introduction:
Hi there! Welcome to Hetaga’s guide to the BowMaster! In this guide, I try to bring to you the various skill builds of the BowMaster (regardless of physical, magical, or the hybrid) and the rationale for them. Not forgetting gears and heraldries and what not, and I would also share with you my current gears as well. For any queries, feel free to leave them as a comment, or pm me in game @ Hetaga (Greenwood). So if you are a fan of the traditional bow and arrow, do read on and consider playing as a BowMaster. In addition, this guide is written completely based on my experience of the game, and tries not to delve too much into numerical values (meaning, I try not to throw numbers into your face and tell you to believe me, rather what I have experienced, failing which I try to give what other people experience), therefore, other players may have a differing viewpoint due to their method of play.
For the sake of accessibility, this guide has been split into 4 generic components:

I would like to warn you first that this is a very lengthy guide, thus I have provided you with a miniature content page below for each portion of the guide. Bring up your search function (Ctrl +F for Windows) and then key in the respective corresponding number to jump to the segment you wish to read. Be prepared for walls of text and seemingly random jumps into various theories as well.

1.0 About the Writer:
Hetaga (Greenwood) was created in October 2011 a couple of weeks after the launch of DragonNest Sea. Being an avid fan of all things that launches projectiles and especially when said implement is a bow and arrow, the archer class was a natural deviation for me.  I have played several other classes including a Elemental Lord, Paladin, Mercenary, Priest, and Acrobat, but I still feel that the path of the BowMaster is still the most interesting class to be in. And while I have no issues with the content in this guide, trying to sell myself eludes me, so I will keep this short.
2.0.0 The Archer Class
The Archer class is one where she uses one of 3 types of bows, namely the Longbow, the Crossbow, and the Shortbow. As such, Archers would actually have to aim for their hits to connect, making the game a bit like a 3rd person shooter. This is even more so for Bow Masters since the majority of her attacks are arrow based.
For Bow Masters, the weapon of choice would be the Longbow and Crossbow, while for Acrobats, it would be the Shortbow and her legs. To help you decide if the BowMaster is for you, the below is a short introduction to the 3.

2.0.1 Longbow
  • ‘Longest’ range among all classes (7.5m)
  • Highest damage range
  • 3rd hit piercing shot
  • Slowest attack speed (80 Arrows Per Minute (APM) – assuming the character has the attack button pressed down continuously, and that the 1st hit of the subsequent 3 hit chain is fired immediately after the previous piercing shot. Otherwise the attack speed would be much lesser.)
  • Highest critical value
2.0.2 Crossbow
  • Medium range compared to Longbow and Shortbow
  • Smaller damage range
  • 3 hit burst per normal attack (3 * 70 APM)
  • Short delay per normal attack
  • Highest Magic attack
  • Lowest Critical
2.0.3 Shortbow
  • Shortest range for an archer
  • Stable attack speed (115 APM)
  • Single shot per normal attack
2.1.0 So which bow for me?
The bow you choose will determine what sub-route you will be going for. Contrary to popular belief, Longbows are not really the weapon for Snipers nor are Crossbows the weapons for Artilleries. Snipers usually use Longbows due to its higher range as well as higher physical attack in comparison to a crossbow while Artillery uses the Crossbow due to its higher Magical Attack. However, if I look at it more as a comparison between a PVP BM and a PVE BM. With the much superior APM offered by the crossbow, it is more a PVE weapon due to its high DPS capability. In comparison, the Longbow due to its higher range, is more a PVE weapon and keeping the enemy at bay. The player would have to determine, if the slight reduction in physical attack for crossbows would be detrimental enough to warrant using a Longbow as a Sniper and vice-versa for the Artillery. That being said, if you are planning to go the route of the Sniper, it is generally accepted that the Longbow is the weapon of choice due to its higher range as well as its higher physical attack, and if you are planning to go the route of the Artillery, the Crossbow will be the weapon of choice because of its higher magical attack.  Shortbows are purely for acrobats, so they hold no place for a Bow Master. Some players may have seen a certain video showing an Artillery class clearing Sea Dragon Nest Practice Mode Solo using a Shortbow, but generally, that is highly not recommended due to the lack of the mastery skill.
Personally, while I am using a Longbow at 40 cap, I am looking at going the crossbow route while playing the Sniper class once 50 cap is out.
2.2.0 Stat Build
As an Archer, Agility is her best friend as it is considered her base stat. Thus, the amount of Agility earned per level is higher than that of all other stat. Below is a breakdown of what each stat does for an Archer,
1 Strength = 0.25 Physical Damage, 2.5 Stun, 3 Paralysis, 3 Paralysis Resist
1 Intellect = 35 MP, 0.5 Magic Damage, 0.8 Magic Defence
1 Agility = 0.5 Physical Damage, 3.5 Critical, 10.5 Critical Resist
1 Vitality = 30 HP, 0.6 Physical Defence, 2.5 Stun Resist
Now that you know what each stat does, it is time to understand their relevance to us. As can be seen above, Agility grants the most physical damage, thus it is the main stat to go for a Physical Bow Master. In a similar vein, Intellect is the only stat that grants magic damage, thus it is the main stat to go for in a magical Bow Master.
Thus when building a physical Bow Master, the 2 stats to look out for are Agility and Strength, and when building a magical Bow Master, the 2 stats to look out for are Intellect and Agility PROVIDED that you are going for maximum damage capability. Vitality is another viable option to grant increased HP, but I would recommend it only for physical BowMasters due to the low agility that magical BowMasters have, who will need every Intellect and Agility point they can get.
2.3.0 Equipment Enhancement
If you did not already know, this game has a system where your equipment can be upgraded or enhanced by using certain jewels. As an Archer, your class specific jewel is the Sapphire, which would be required in enhancing certain items, most notably, the Epic Rarity Items, beyond a certain level of enhancement, Diamond would also be required. For most of the lower rarity items, Agate would be needed to enhance them. Below are the types of jewels you would require, and their various level ranges that they service.

To enhance your item, proceed to the blacksmith in town (Prairie Town – Dorin, Mana Ridge – Borin, Calderock Village – Corin, Saint Haven – Berlin) and select the Enhance Item option. Do note that enhancing items beyond Level 6 has a chance to break the item.
2.4.0 Sniper VS Artillery
In general, by the time level 50 cap arrives, the Artillery class is recognised as the class with the higher DPS dealing capability compared to the Sniper class. This is due to a couple of reasons:
1) Magical Breeze – This 3rd job skill available only to the artillery class, which converts all damage to magical damage. Due to the general lower magic defence of enemies, the player will be able to dish out more damage compared to a Sniper with similar physical attack
2) 3 hit burst attack – 1 hit gives you 3x the damage. Self explanatory
However, the artillery class requires a lot more time and effort to build up. For players who have tried the Sword Master class, the Sniper VS Artillery comparison would be in some ways similar to the Gladiator VS Moon lord comparison. This is because the Artillery class is a magic attack based class, and that the base stat of Archers is Agility, which does not provide any magic attack. Thus, players would have to get intellect based equipments and heraldries and forgoing the Agility stat that most Bow Masters would be going for. Due to the emphasis on Intellect more then on Agility, the Artillery class may encounter some issues with their critical amounts. Thus, it would be more imperative for the Artillery class to get potentials such as the 17% critical value on their equipments, which in general tend to cost more over one which does not have it. Snipers on the other hand, due to their sole emphasis on Agility, their critical value would typically be sufficient to reach the 89% critical cap without any 17% critical potentials.
Furthermore, the number of classes in the game which are based on magic attack also outnumbers the classes which use physical attack. Thus, due to basic economics, the higher demand, will cause the prices of magic attack items (such as Magician Rings) would technically be higher. A graphical explanation is as follows:

Snipers on the other hand, despite being touted as the class with the longest range in the entire game, is in reality not true. Certain skills such as the Elemental Lord’s Fireball (which can hit door to door in the PVP Map Lost Temple), and the Mercenary’s Punishing Swing has a much further range. But even so, the general range of the Sniper is still much further than that of the other classes, and can usually take down the enemy before even the enemy gets close.
Also, as mentioned earlier, it is much cheaper to build a Sniper then the Artillery. Being a player who does not have that much time and energy to put into the game, every amount of gold saved is a wonderful thing to have. As Russell Peters says :”You save 50 cents here, and you go somewhere else and save 50 cents, you got 1 dollar. Then you go to the dollar store, you can buy something else!”Snipers on the other hand, despite being touted as the class with the longest range in the entire game, is in reality not true.
That being said, I am going for a Hybrid Sniper (more on that later) due to a key reason which I feel all players should consider before choosing their class, and that is the satisfaction level. Personally, I enjoy the way that the Sniper class feels, and the game mechanics that the Sniper class has. In addition, the difference in the Longbow and Crossbow are significant enough to factor in my decision. Furthermore, due to real life commitments, I fear that I would be unable to spend sufficient time and effort to make a strong Artillery Class compared to a strong Sniper Class.
